Management Team

Christopher Morton, Ph.D.
Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Morton has more than 25 years of entrepreneurial and corporate leadership experience in the communications infrastructure industry, including both wireline and wireless, business/strategic planning, infrastructure equipment design/production, and service provider network operations. Prior to joining SkyCross, he was executive in residence with MILCOM Technologies, where he oversaw the launch of new communications companies. Dr. Morton has also served in high-level executive positions with notable communications companies such as AT&T, Bell Laboratories, and Allen Telecom Systems. He earned his Ph.D. in communication systems from the University of Pennsylvania.

Tim Whitfield
Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Whitfield has more than 10 years of senior financial management and directorship experience in the technology and telecommunications industries. Prior to joining SkyCross, he was chief financial officer of Paconet, an international telecommunication carrier using satellite to transmit global voice and data traffic. He has also served as financial director of Telecel, a distributor of wireless and cellular handset equipment. Before venturing into these roles, he practiced auditing at Deloitte & Touche. Mr. Whitfield is a chartered accountant with a bachelor of commerce degree and post graduate diploma in accounting from the University of Cape Town.

Paul Tornatta
Chief Technical Officer

Mr. Tornatta has more than 18 years of experience the aerospace, wireless, telecommunications and automotive industries. Prior to joining SkyCross, he served as vice president of the automotive business unit at Radiall Corp., a leading supplier of RF interconnect products. He also served in a variety of leadership positions at Larsen Antenna Technologies, Metricom, and Lockheed Martin. Mr. Tornatta earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from New Mexico State University. He has written articles on RF design and electromagnetics for a variety of RF trade publications. He is a member of IEEE and the Society of Automotive Engineers.

Frank M. Caimi, Ph.D., P.E.
Chief Scientist

Dr. Caimi has more than 30 years of experience in antenna and RF research and development. Most recently, he served as associate professor of electrical engineering at Florida Institute of Technology's Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. During his career, Dr. Caimi has served as a consultant on communications and signal processing for industry and government organizations and has more than 18 years experience in technical and leadership management. He earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Young-Min Jo, Ph.D.
Chief Operating Officer
Managing Director of SkyCross Korea

Dr. Jo has extensive experience in the wireless industry, specializing in RF theory, measurement, and design. Prior to joining SkyCross, he worked on a smart antenna program funded by the U.S. Air Force as a lead researcher in the antenna systems laboratory at Florida Institute of Technology. He also has served in a variety research and product development positions with Samsung Electronics and Mac Trans International. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Korea University and master's and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Florida Tech. Dr. Jo owns more than 10 issued and pending U.S./international patents. He also has written several articles on RF technology and measurement and antenna design for a variety of industry publications.

Ping Chen
Managing Director of SkyCross China

Mr. Chen has more than 16 years of experience in cellular handset design, RFIC design, wireless system architecture, system design, and Asian market and business development. Before joining SkyCross, he served as general manager, Asia, at Paratek Microwave, a producer of highly engineered electronic radio-frequency components and subsystems for the commercial and government markets. Prior to that, Mr. Chen served in a variety of technical leadership positions at RF Micro Devices and Sony. He earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Nevada.

Joseph Gifford
VP of Business Development

Mr. Gifford has over 20 years of entrepreneurial and corporate leadership experience as a business strategist and tactical operating manager in the wireless industry and venture-backed community. Prior to joining SkyCross, Mr. Gifford served in various executive positions at Motorola, Cellon International, InterDigital and Metaphor, which was acquired by IBM. His areas of responsibility have included corporate strategy, field operations, business development and partnership strategy, marketing and product management. He has published several articles on radio-in-the-local-loop, wireless communication alternatives for emerging countries, next-generation cellular communications using broadband technologies, and wireless systems for in-building requirements. He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Rutgers University and the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Gifford is also a military veteran and served in the United States Marine Corps.
