for High-Performance 5 GHz WLAN Systems
OTTAWA -- Feb. 19, 2002 -- IceFyre Semiconductor, a fabless semiconductor
company rethinking high-speed wireless integrated circuit architectures,
and SkyCross, a leader in the design, development and manufacturing
of next-generation advanced microwave antenna solutions, today
announced that SkyCross' 5 GHz antenna technology will be integrated
into IceFyre's future evaluation boards and reference designs.

Compared to traditional antennas, SkyCross' 5-GHz WLAN antenna
transmits wireless signals in a true omni-directional azimuth pattern,
resulting in better coverage and a reduction in dropped signals.
In addition, the antenna's unique capability and ultra-small design,
made possible by SkyCross' Meander Line Antenna (MLA) technology,
dramatically increases the efficiency and signal pattern for 802.11a
WLAN devices.
IceFyre announced in September 2001 that it had solved the power
consumption problem hindering mass deployment of 802.11a and HiperLAN
II applications in the enterprise environment. IceFyre's innovative,
patented approach to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing
(OFDM) modem design provides a 75 percent reduction in power consumption
compared with traditional OFDM technology, while addressing the
requirement for a cost-effective CMOS solution. In addition, IceFyre's
design can support both the 54-Mbps data rate and the 100-meter
range requirements, effectively meeting and exceeding all 802.11a
specifications, and offering the end-user the full potential of
