SkyCross Joins The Ultra Wideband
Working Group
Group Focuses on Technical, Regulatory Issues Relating
To Newly-Approved
Technology
MELBOURNE, Florida, May 7, 2002 SkyCross, a leading developer
of advanced wireless antenna solutions, joined the Ultra Wideband
Working Group, an association of companies, individuals, governing
officials and regulators whose common goal is the development and
industry acceptance of ultra wideband (UWB) technology. SkyCross
offers the wireless industry one of the first UWB-specific antenna
solutions.
UWB, which was recently approved by the Federal Communications
Committee, can be used for wireless communications, particularly
for the short-range high-speed data transmissions needed for broadband
access to the Internet. Unlike traditional wireless systems, which
operate over a specific frequency band, UWB devices emit pulses
of radio energy, up to 1 billion a second, over a wide swath of
frequencies. As a result of these characteristics, UWB devices
can detect and measure the position of objects more accurately
than traditional technology and can penetrate walls more easily.
In addition, UWB signals run at high speeds and low power levels.
Traditional antenna technology, however, does not provide adequate
coverage for the pulsing nature and large frequency span of the
UWB signal. Thanks to its patented Meander Line Antenna technology,
SkyCross is designing high-gain, wideband antenna solutions that
address this challenge and can effectively provide proper coverage
for UWB devices.
"Ultra wideband is an exciting technology that holds much
promise for wireless applications and much challenge for wireless
design engineers," said vice president of engineering for
SkyCross and company representative to the UWB Work Group. "Our
antenna technology is well-positioned to handle the demanding radio
frequency requirements UWB devices need to operate."
With its membership to the UWB Work Group, SkyCross joins other
prestigious, high technology multinational companies such as Rockwell
Collins, RF Technologies, Texas Instruments, Worldcom, Lockheed
Martin, Motorola, and Harris Corporation. About SkyCross
SkyCross is a leading developer of next-generation
RF technology for mobile and fixed wireless telecommunications,
telematics, satellite, and mobile computing markets. SkyCross'
antenna solutions are based on patented Meander Line Antenna
technology that allows engineers to design high performance,
multi-mode, multi-frequency antennas that can be hidden inside
a mobile casing, have a very low radiation profile, and offer
much better gain characteristics over existing solutions. Typical
applications for the antennas include handsets, laptop computers,
PDAs, automobiles, household electronics and base stations.
