SkyCross Introduces 5 GHz High
Gain,
Embedded Antennas For Newly Approved Wireless LAN Frequencies
In Japan
MELBOURNE, Florida, September 10, 2002 SkyCross, a leading
developer of advanced wireless antenna solutions, introduced the
industry's first antennas that provide complete coverage for both
the existing and newly-opened portions of the 5 GHz frequency band
designated for wireless LAN communications in Japan. The 5 GHz
band allows for fast wireless data transmission speeds, up to 54
Mbps using the IEEE 802.11a standard, and is typically associated
with wireless Internet access.
Currently in Japan, 5.15 - 5.25 GHz is allocated for indoor WLAN
use. The country's Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications
Ministry, however, is expected by the end of the year to allocate
4.9 - 5.0 GHz and 5.03 - 5.091 GHz frequency bands for both indoor
and outdoor WLAN services. SkyCross' high gain, embedded antennas
provide coverage for both the existing and newly-allocated bands
together.
Standard RF technology produces antennas that provide coverage
for specific and narrowly defined frequency bands. As a result,
these antennas cannot provide adequate multi-frequency operation
without a tradeoff in size, performance, efficiency and/or cost.
SkyCross' patented RF technology allows its engineers to develop
multi-frequency antennas-that are high performing, embedded, extremely
efficient antennas-at competitive prices.
"Our new 5 GHz antennas enable OEMs targeting the Japanese
market to create a single WLAN card for use in all the portions
of the 5 GHz band designated for WLAN," said CEO of SkyCross. "Our
antennas provide superior efficiency and gain directivity in a
small package and are the best performance solutions for developers
implementing WLANs in Japan for the 5 GHz frequency band."
The opening of additional portions of the 5 GHz band for WLAN
applications in Japan is driven by the country's limited resource
of radio waves for wireless access and the industry's demand for
higher date transmission rates.
Key specifications of SkyCross'
new antennas include:
- Frequency Range 4.900
- 5.35 GHz
- Gain 3.0 dBi PeakEfficiency greater than 70%
- Elevation Pattern
Uni-directional
- Feed Impedance 50 Ohms Unbalanced
About SkyCross
SkyCross is a leading developer of next-generation
RF technology for mobile and fixed wireless telecommunications,
telematics, satellite, and mobile computing markets. SkyCross'
antenna solutions are based on patented Meander Line Antenna
technology that allows engineers to design high performance,
multi-mode, multi-frequency antennas that can be hidden inside
a mobile casing, have a very low radiation profile, and offer
much better gain characteristics over existing solutions. Typical
applications for the antennas include handsets, laptop computers,
PDAs, automobiles, household electronics and base stations.
