SkyCross To License Embedded Antenna Solution In New CDMA/GPS Flip-Top Phone For Use On SK Telecom's Korean Networks

MELBOURNE, Florida, February 25, 2003  - SkyCross Inc., a leading developer of advanced RF and antenna technology, announced that it has signed a licensing agreement with SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM), Korea's leading wireless telecommunications services provider. Under the terms of the agreement, SK Telecom is implementing SkyCross Cellular,GPS and WCDMA embedded antenna solution into its new GPS-enhanced CDMA flip-top phones.

This agreement comes on the heels of the two companies previously signing a Memorandum of Understanding for SkyCross to develop custom-designed, high performance antennas for one of SK Telecom's Testbed Projects a project that brings together SK Telecom with component vendors and handset OEMs to produce advanced 2.5G and 3G CDMA phones for global wireless markets.

"We are pleased that SK Telecom has again turned to SkyCross for its RF solution," said Christopher Morton, CEO of SkyCross. "It is a credit to our entire team that Korea's premier mobile carrier has the confidence to continue to look to SkyCross for its next-generation embedded antenna devices."

SK Telecom provides cellular service through a CDMA-based network that covers approximately 99 percent of the Korean population. SK Telecom launched the world's first commercial CDMA cellular phone service and today Korea's top mobile carrier claims more than 17 million subscribers. The company's new CDMA/GPS flip-top phones should be available to Korean consumers by 4Q 2003.

"Our new flip-top wireless phone presented an RF challenge, which is why we again turned to SkyCross for the solution," said Myung Sung Lee, Vice President of SK Telecom. "We needed to combine two separate standards and technologies into a small, high performing device and we wanted the antenna to be unseen. As always, the SkyCross team came through for us."

Features of SkyCross' CDMA/GPS antenna:

  • Peak gain of 0.3 dBi in the 800 MHz CDMA band, which was
tested to be about 0.4 dB better than an external stubby antenna
  • Peak gain of 2.4 dBi at the 1575 MHz GPS frequency, which was tested to be about 2 dB better than an external stubby antenna
  • 1900 mm3 volume in size
