SkyCross Introduces Industry's
First High Gain, Embedded Antennas For All World Wide Radio WLAN
Applications
MELBOURNE, Florida, March 18, 2003 - SkyCross, a leading
developer of advanced wireless antenna solutions, introduced the
industry's first antenna that provides complete coverage for all
frequency bands designated for wireless LAN communications throughout
the world. The 2.4GHz band is extensively used to implement the
IEEE 802.11b standard, with 802.11g soon to be approved for use
in the same band. The 5 GHz bands allow for faster wireless data
transmission speeds, up to 54 Mbps using the 802.11a standard.
802.11a is implemented in various 5GHz bands worldwide, including
newly licensed 4.900-5.090 GHz bands in Japan.
Current WLAN antennas are limited in the range of frequency bands
they can cover. Presently, only portions of these bands are covered,
but not the entire bandwidth. SkyCross' new antenna provides complete
coverage over all the multiple frequency bands designated for WLAN
applications. SkyCross also produces these antennas in a wide variety
of patterns, and physical realizations to suit all WLAN Manufacturers
needs.
"This antenna design ensures that users can access any type
of Wi-Fi wireless network anywhere in the world with absolutely
no need for additional antennas or hardware, providing transparent
worldwide Wi-Fi access," said Chris Morton, CEO of SkyCross. "This
is a great benefit to both the end user who can purchase one device
that will work anywhere, as well as the manufacturer who can use
one standard antenna that will work with any radio standard."
Key Specifications of SkyCross' new antennas include:
- Frequency
Ranges: 2.4 - 2.5 and 4.9 - 5.9 GHz
- Gain: 3.0 dBi Peak
- Efficiency: Greater than 70%
- Size: Less than 0.75" square
"Standard antenna technologies such as ceramic or PIFA antennas
provide coverage for specific and narrowly defined frequency bands.
As a result, these antennas cannot provide adequate multi-frequency
operation without a tradeoff in performance, efficiency and/or
cost," said Kerry Greer, VP of Business Development for SkyCross. "As
more and more frequency bands are being allocated for WLAN use,
more and more equipment manufacturers are turning to SkyCross to
solve their antenna problems."
About SkyCross
SkyCross is a leading developer of next-generation
RF technology for mobile and fixed wireless telecommunications, telematics,
satellite, and mobile computing markets. SkyCross' antenna solutions
are based on patented Meander Line Antenna technology that allows
engineers to design high performance, multi-mode, multi-frequency
antennas that can be hidden inside a mobile casing, have a very low
radiation profile, and offer much better gain characteristics over
existing solutions. Typical applications for the antennas include
handsets, laptop computers, PDAs, automobiles, household electronics
and base stations. For details, please visit www.skycross.com.
