Customized Solutions, Continued Innovation

GPS

Location-based services are rapidly growing for portable devices with increased demand for accurate driving directions, identifying local landmarks, and tracking people for safety. In addition to more traditional navigational units and tracking devices, location-based systems are being integrated into an increasing number of mobile handsets. SkyCross offers solutions for both assisted and true GPS in stamped metal and helical form factors.

Assisted GPS (A-GPS) receivers use satellites in conjunction with a reference network such as cell phone towers to quickly provide a location. The receiver operates quickly and efficiently because its tasks are shared with the assistance server. SkyCross designs mobile handset antennas with added GPS capability. Handset manufacturers enjoy increased functionality without increasing the space allotted for the antenna or sacrificing performance.

True GPS requires the receiver to communicate directly with satellites to determine its location. SkyCross offers a quadrifilar helical antenna (QHA) product that maximizes performance in a small package. The SkyCross antenna optimizes the pitch angle, diameter, and filar length for ideal upper hemisphere right hand circular polarization (RHCP) to locate the satellites.
